Wedding speeches

For any best man to deliver the wedding speeches and raise the wedding toasts is not only a herculean task but a task that comes with a great deal of responsibility! For any one to deliver the wedding speech is not an arduous task, but to ensure that the speech not only keeps the guests present involved and finds connection with the bride and the groom is what makes anyone delivering it a bit too nervous! For great speech delivery, the groom's mate must ensure that the following points are taken care of:

1. The man-in-charge must ensure that the wedding guests present at the ceremony are known to him. If less than fifty percent of the guests are known to him, then he must first introduce himself and relate his relationship with the groom and his family. Ideally, wedding speeches should start with acknowledging the presence of the guests and thanking them for their time, followed by an acknowledgment of the most wonderful and sought-after event in anyone's life!

2. The wedding speech should ideally not be an impromptu speech, lest the man-in-charge misses on some important points. The best man should do some research about the background of the couple before delivering the speech - about their pre-nuptial life, how they met, their common interests and passions, what one feels for another et al. Including remarks of friends and family in the speech is also a good idea to let the gathering know how the near and dear ones feel about the couple's union. It is always advisable to pen down one's thoughts and rehearse the speech before the actual delivery to avoid stumbling on the D-day, much to the couple's disappointment!

3. Wedding speeches should include some humorous anecdotes involving the couple. Jokes are a great idea if said in the right spirit and ideally should not leave the couple or anyone else in the family feeling humiliated. Care should be taken to ensure that the speech is free of any swear words. It is also a good idea to include some generic wedding quotes in the speech to make it emotional and heart rendering.

4. It is not a great idea to give wedding speeches while being drunk. If the speech is being videographed, it is a good idea to visit the wash-room to ensure that one's hair and clothing are in order. Also, it is better to avoid any mention of any previous girlfriends or boyfriends or spouses as well as the cost of the wedding or gifts in the speech. Also, one must not talk about the future plans of the couple like pregnancy and children in the course of the speech delivery.

5. The best man toast must finally end on a happy and hopeful note and the couple must be wished good health, prosperity and happiness in their new journey. The wedding toasts must be said with a champagne glass addressing both the room and the bride and must close with 'Cheers'.

In summary, wedding speeches should be brief, emotional and must engage all the guests present and above all should be relevant not only to the groom or the bride, but to both of them as a couple!
